How to write a diary online
Same as a paper diary, just accessible from anywhere and harder to lose.Writing a diary online is just writing a diary on a device instead of in a notebook. The process is the same: open it, write what's on your mind, close it. The digital part just adds some convenience.
Where to write
Dedicated apps like Day One, Journey, or OhDiary are built for this. They have password protection, sync across devices, and won't accidentally share your entries. Note apps work too, but with less privacy.
What to write
Whatever's on your mind. What happened today. How you're feeling. Things you're working through. You don't need prompts or structure unless you want them. Just write.
Making it stick
- Pick a time – morning or evening works for most people
- Keep it short at first – one paragraph is fine
- Don't worry about quality – it's for you, not an audience
- Show up even when you don't feel like it – that's where the habit forms
Adding photos
Most apps let you add images to entries. A photo can capture what happened better than words sometimes. But don't feel obligated – text-only is completely fine.
The benefits come from regular writing, not from any particular app or method. Start simple and adjust as you go.
