How to start an online diary

Pick a platform, set a password, write something. That's the whole process.

An online diary works like a paper one, just stored digitally. You write about your day, your thoughts, whatever you want to remember or process. The difference is it syncs across devices, you can search old entries, and nobody can stumble across it in a drawer.

Step 1: Pick a platform

Options include dedicated apps (Day One, Journey, OhDiary) or general tools (Notion, notes apps, Google Docs). Pick something with password protection and cloud sync. The best platform is one you'll actually open.

Step 2: Set up security

Enable password protection or biometric lock. Your diary should be private – you won't write honestly if you're worried about someone reading it.

Step 3: Write your first entry

Date. A few sentences about what's on your mind. Done. Don't wait for something profound – just start.

What to write about

Whatever's on your mind. What happened today. How you're feeling. Decisions you're mulling over. Things you don't want to forget. There's no wrong answer.

Building the habit

Write at the same time each day – morning or evening works for most people. Even one sentence counts. Missing a day isn't a big deal; just pick back up tomorrow.
